For the first time in more than three decades of history , a woman will participate in the 3 Hours of Costa Rica – Davivienda. This was confirmed today by the production company Family Fun – RPM TV and the national ACR Motor Wrecks team.
The young Costa Rican, Alejandra Salas , will be in charge of writing this new page in the history of national motorsports. She was selected by the ACR Motor Wrecks team to accompany the Canadian driver based in Costa Rica, Dean Paquette , in his participation in the event. They will compete aboard the Porsche 996 GT3 Cup , in the GTS Junior category.
Alejandra, 23, made her debut in the National Motorsports Championship this year and also has experience in karting.
«Being the first woman to participate in the 3 Hours of Costa Rica in its entire history is an indescribable feeling. I’m filled with pride and excitement; it’s an honor to be part of such an important moment for motorsports in Costa Rica. At the same time, I feel a great responsibility to myself, to the team, and to all the women who watch me and are motivated by my participation. This is a step toward the inclusion of women in this sport. I feel fortunate to be part of this change and to represent so many girls who dream of being on the track,” said Salas.
«I know Alejandra from the National Motorsports Championship; I race in GT2 and she races in GT3 Spec. She’s a very professional young woman, as I’ve seen throughout this year. In the pits, she’s always looking to learn from the mechanics, and on the track, I’ve seen a strong competitor. Alejandra is exactly what we’re looking for in the GT Challenge: a strong, competitive, fast, and very professional driver,» commented Dean Paquette, driver for the ACR Motor Wrecks team.
«This is excellent news. We wish her the best in her participation. We know she achieved excellent times, which earned her a spot in this Central American and Caribbean competition. We hope that, like her, more women will join in the future,» commented Manrique Mata, director of Family Fun-RPMTV.
The region’s most prestigious automotive event will take place on December 1st at the StarCars.com Circuit at Parque Viva, in La Guácima, Alajuela.
